Dr Alfred Amambua Ngwa has BSc, MSc and PhD in Biochemistry (Molecular biology and immunopathogenesis) from the University of Buea, Cameroon.
He joined the unit in 2006, engaging in cell biology, microarray, and genomic sequencing to determine the diversity in invasion patterns and genetic selection of the deadliest malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum in Africa. His current research focus is on phenotype-genotype association, host-Plasmodium parasite interaction, evolution to drug and insecticide resistance, and transmission tracking to support the malaria elimination strategies.
He Leads the Pan-African Malaria Genetic Epidemiology Network (PAMGEN) and actively participates in several consortia for developing genomics and bioinformatics capacity in Africa.
