Strengthening Collaboration between SANBI and DELGEME
As part of efforts to strengthen collaboration between partners of the DELGEME program, Professor Alan Christoffels, Director of the National Institute of Bioinformatics in South Africa (SANBI), visited DELGEME offices in Bamako from April 19 to 22, 2017.
A Warm Welcome in Bamako
Professor Alan Christoffels was welcomed by Professor Abdoulaye Djimdé, Professor Djibril Sangaré, as well as staff, fellows, and students of DELGEME. His visit followed an invitation extended by the DELGEME Director during a recent trip to South Africa.
A Productive Visit
During his stay, Professor Christoffels participated in several key activities:
- A brief presentation of the DELGEME program and an introductory meeting with its staff.
- Visits to DELGEME project premises and the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC).
- A courtesy visit to the Embassy of South Africa in Bamako.
He also visited:
- The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.
- The Director of SEREFO, a research and training facility on HIV and Tuberculosis.
- The African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics (ACE) at the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques.
Sharing Expertise and Building Networks
Professor Christoffels engaged in individual meetings with DELGEME students and fellows. He also delivered a seminar on bioinformatics to the MRTC staff, sharing valuable insights and expertise.
Strengthening Ties
This visit marked a significant step in the collaboration between SANBI and DELGEME, promoting the exchange of experiences and ideas between the two institutions. DELGEME benefited from a high level of external expertise, which will further enhance its research capacity and impact.
