William YAVO obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy diploma in 1999 and his PhD in parasitology in 2009. He also holds several special study certificates in clinical biology (parasitology and mycology, biochemistry, hematology) and a Bachelor degree in public health. Since 2017, he has been Full Professor of Parasitology and Mycology at the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (Abidjan-Côte d’Ivoire). He is the Head of the Malaria Research and Control Center and the Director General of the National Public Health Institute (Côte d’Ivoire). He led several research projects as PI and he is author/co-author of more than 100 publications. One of his main research themes is to study antimalarial drug resistance in Plasmodium falciparum and the genetic diversity of Plasmodium isolates circulating in different epidemiological facies. He is also interested in the evaluation of strategies and tools for malaria and other public health threats elimination. He was the Chairman of the DELGEME 1 Project Management Board. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Pathogen genomic Diversity Network, a Scientific Consortium of 16 African countries. William is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Malaria Control Program.
