PMRTC Welcomes the British Ambassador for a Visit to Its Research Platforms
The Parasites and Microbes Research and Training Center (PMRTC) was honored to welcome His Excellency Mr. Angus McKee, British Ambassador to Mali, for a visit to its key research platforms, highlighting the longstanding scientific partnership between Mali and the United Kingdom.
During the visit, the delegation explored several of the Center’s strategic facilities, including:
🔹 The MALDI-TOF platform, led by Prof. Safiatou Doumbo Niaré, dedicated to the rapid diagnosis and identification of pathogens;
🔹 Multipurpose Laboratories 1 and 2, with Multipurpose Laboratory 2 managed by Prof. Laurent Dembélé, where cutting-edge research is conducted on infectious diseases, new drug discovery, and cell culture technologies;
🔹 The Cell Culture Facilities, which are essential for biomedical research;
🔹 The PMRTC Insectary, led by Dr. Fatalmoudou Tandina, which plays a key role in the study of disease vectors and their transmission.
The visit concluded at the DELGEME Plus Building, where the ground-floor cafeteria was funded through the support of the UK Government, reflecting a tangible commitment to strengthening research and training capacity in Mali.
Beyond showcasing PMRTC’s research infrastructure, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss current challenges in global health research, the fight against infectious diseases, the development of innovative therapies, and the importance of strengthening international scientific collaborations.
